Universal Design Matters to Older Adults

Whether you’re in your 40’s and doing a major kitchen renovation or in your 70’s and wanting a shower with better access, universal design is something you want to know about.

Many consumers don’t know the terminology to use when they want to talk to their contractor about adapting their home for more efficient use as they age so the discussion isn’t brought forward. Ultimately we find ways to adapt ourselves and our lifestyle to design that may not be optimized for aging in place successfully.

Sure, we all know that higher toilets exist and that grab bars should be installed in our bathrooms but there’s so much more. Our Oldish TV show this week gave a primer on universal design and some suggestions to mull over if you’re thinking about a renovation.
