Uber Expanding Into Food Delivery/Assisted Rides

Transportation and access to nutritious meals are two of the most pressing matters for seniors living at home who can no longer drive.

Uber, the well known smartphone app for ride sharing, is expanding it’s menu to include uberAssist, a new platform that has partnered with Open Doors Organization to train drivers and provide additional assistance for riders who may need help with folding wheelchairs, walkers or scooter.

By requesting uberAssist, riders can contact their driver ahead of time to relay any specific needs.  The assist vehicles do not presently have accessible ramps but that option may not be far off.  People with wheelchair accessible vehicles can learn more about becoming an assist driver by filling out the online inquiry form at: https://uberform.wufoo.com/forms/drive-uberaccessx/ .

UberEATS is a new function of the app which will quickly deliver food from local restaurants.  To date, the service is only available in large cities including Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Paris, Washington D.C. and Toronto. Whether it’s a craving for authentic Mexican, gourmet pizza, fresh juices or comfort food, UberEATS is catching on in larger North American Cities including Toronto.
